Aylmer outlasts Dorchester, 3-2

The game between the Aylmer Spitfires and the Dorchester Dolphins was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Aylmer emerged with a 3-2 win.

The Spitfires gained the winning advantage on a goal by Luke Bettencourt 9:42 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Clint Walker was all over the ice for Aylmer, as he racked up two goals in the win. Walker scored on the power play at 10:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Aylmer and again while on the power play 12:38 into the first to make the score 2-0 Aylmer.

The Spitfires managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Aylmer ended up below its season average of 33.0 penalty minutes per game.

In addition, Aylmer received assists from Brad Payne, who had two and Ryan Stapleton and Eric Nemeth, who contributed one a piece.

Dorchester was held below its usual level of production. The Dolphins average 5.2 goals per game. The Spitfires were unable to stop Dorchester from sending pucks towards the net, and the Dolphins eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

Dorchester was helped by Brady Veroughstraete, who registered one goal. Veroughstraete scored 13:24 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Aylmer. Matt Johnson picked up the assist. Dorchester additionally got points from Shayne Rhyno, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Dorchester were Brendon O Shaughnessy and Gus Ford, who each chipped in one.

Lucas Easterbrook rejected 33 shots on goal for Aylmer. The Spitfires registered two goals on four power play opportunities. The Dolphins' Craig Wood stopped 25 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Dorchester incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
