Exeter beats Lambeth 3-2 after comeback scare

The Lambeth Lancers tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Exeter Hawks would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

Exeter made the score 3-0 on a goal by Kalvin Thornton at 18:35 in the second period, and Lambeth got as close as 3-2 when Warren Hargraves scored 2:25 into the third period.

Thornton was all over the ice for the Hawks, as he registered two goals in the win.

Exeter also got a goal from Carter Austin (FAPM) as well. Other players who recorded assists for Exeter were Trevor Thornton, Cam Dykstra, Tyler McNaughton, and Jesse McIntyre, who each chipped in one.

The Lancers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Lambeth was held below its usual level of production. The Lancers average 5.6 goals per game. Lambeth kept Exeter's goalie busy throughout the game, and Joe Metzger made 37 saves on 39 shots.

Cody Wuytenburg also scored for Lambeth. In addition, Lambeth received assists from Kale Corbeth and Jordan Spavor, who contributed one a piece.

The Hawks incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. JP Trudell made 22 saves for the Lancers on 25 shots. Lambeth totaled 31 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. The Lancers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brett Cook was ejected from the game.
