Mt.Brydges holds on for 5-4 win against North MiddlesexNorth Middlesex Arena Sun, Oct 27, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The North Middlesex Stars tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Mt.Brydges Bulldogs held on for a 5-4 victory. Mt.Brydges made the score 5-3 on a goal by Cameron Dewan at 11:21 in the third period, and North Middlesex got as close as 5-4 when Taylor Moir scored 17:46 into the third period. The Bulldogs got the win with help from a great game by Spencer Wilson, who had two goals and one assist. Wilson scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 13:23 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Mt.Brydges. Mt.Brydges had gained a power play chance when Josh DenOtter was whistled for tripping. Tony Lindner assisted on the tally. Wilson's next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Mt.Brydges with 12:09 left in the second period. A charging penalty on Adam Claessens had put the Bulldogs on the power play. Matt Rinker provided the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 14:16 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Mt.Brydges was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 25.0 minutes per game the Bulldogs had been spending in the box. Mt.Brydges stifled the Stars' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Bulldogs kept North Middlesex's goalie busy throughout the game, and Dane Gubbels made 26 saves on 31 shots. Mt.Brydges surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Bulldogs average 2.5 goals per game. Cole Chilvers also scored for Mt.Brydges. In addition, Mt.Brydges received assists from Robert McTaggart, who had two and Connor Knapman and Sean Candler, who contributed one a piece. The Stars bested their season scoring average. North Middlesex has scored at the pace of 1.5 goal per game during the current campaign. The defensemen of the Stars were also effective in Mt.Brydges' zone, and came away with two goals. North Middlesex was helped by Nic Kowaluk, who racked up one goal. Kowaluk scored 1:11 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Mt.Brydges. Greg Masschelein picked up the assist. North Middlesex also got a goal from Greg Apps as well. More assists for North Middlesex came via Tom Bedour, Matt Dacosta, Dylan Carroll, and Brady Smith (APM), who each chipped in one. Patrick Maziarz recorded 20 saves for the Bulldogs. Mt.Brydges registered three goals on eight power play opportunities. For the Bulldogs, Trevor Smith was ejected from the game. The Stars totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and one major and went 0-for-6 on the power play. For North Middlesex, Blake Reed and Spencer Kading were ejected from the contest.
