Thamesford uses big second period to beat Mt.Brydges, 9-4

The Mt.Brydges Bulldogs was within striking distance after one period, but the Thamesford Trojans put the pedal down in the second en route to a 9-4 victory.

James Toye was all over the ice for Thamesford, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Toye scored the first of his two goals at 12:18 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Thamesford. Adam Levine picked up the assist. Toye's next tally made the score 4-1 Thamesford with 6:07 left in the second period. The Trojans had gotten the advantage when Mt.Brydges' Tyler Lockwood was sent off for slashing. Levine provided the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:05 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Thamesford was often in penalty trouble, totaling 12 minors and one major for 89 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 36.0 minutes per game the Trojans had been spending in the box. Thamesford made the Bulldogs' netminders to work between the pipes, getting 48 shots and forcing 39 saves. Patrick Maziarz made 30 stops and Andrew Harrimand-Duke made nine. The Trojans surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Thamesford averages 4.8 goals per game.

Thamesford also got points from Kyle Walker, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Thamesford included Jake Saunders, who had two and Jake McColl, Jordan Winter APM, Andrew McLennan, and Nicholas Moniz, who each put in one. In addition, Thamesford received assists from Dakota Hill, who had two and Liam Carson, Daniel Green, Liam Billings, Stavros Mandrapilias, and Mitch Davies, who each chipped in one.

The Mt.Brydges penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 14 minors and one major for 83 minutes in penalty time. The Bulldogs surpassed its season average of 25.0 penalty minutes per game. Mt.Brydges was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to two goals off of 16 man advantages. The defensemen of the Bulldogs were also effective in the Trojans' zone, and came away with four goals.

Mt.Brydges was helped by Liam Nemitt, who grabbed one goal. Nemitt scored 17:11 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Thamesford. Ryan Patrick picked up the assist. Mt.Brydges additionally got points from Tyler Perry, who also had two goals and one assist to lead the team in points and Connor Lovie, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Mt.Brydges were Matt Rinker, who had two.

Thamesford's Darren Robinson APM stopped 23 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Trojans registered three goals on six power play opportunities. For Thamesford, McColl and Mandrapilias were ejected from the contest. Team's Connor Knapman, Patrick, and Curtis Taylor were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
