Black leads Aylmer to shutout victory over Exeter

The Aylmer Spitfires used a sparkling performance by Dan Black to take down the Exeter Hawks, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Aylmer's 2-0 shutout victory.

The Spitfires' penalty kill excelled, as Aylmer gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

The Spitfires were led by Cam Bond, who had one goal. Bond scored on the power play 19:34 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Aylmer. Aylmer had gotten the advantage when Exeter's Trevor Thornton was sent off for head contact. Matthew Reese provided the assist.

The Spitfires racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and three majors for 71 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 40.0 minutes per game Aylmer had been spending in the box. The Spitfires stifled the Hawks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Cody Underhill also scored for Aylmer. Other players who recorded assists for Aylmer were Luke Bettencourt and Will Goodhue, who each chipped in one.

Exeter forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 14 minors and three majors for 93 minutes in penalty time. The Hawks surpassed its season average of 31.0 penalty minutes per game. Exeter was held below its usual level of production. The Hawks average 2.4 goals per game. The defense for Exeter tightened up when it had players in the penalty box, as it let in one goal on 11 Aylmer power plays.

The Spitfires' Black stopped 30 shots out of the 30 that he faced. For Aylmer, Jeff Bullas, Andrew Baxter, and Brad Payne were ejected from the contest. Joe Metzger made 27 saves for the Hawks on 28 shots. Team's Cody Kropf, Chiristopher Pfaff, Carter Austin (FAPM), and Jesse McIntyre were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
