Lucan uses shootout to best Dorchester, 7-6 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Lucan Irish defeated the Dorchester Dolphins in a shootout 7-6 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for three attempts between the teams.

Lucan overcame a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Irish was down 4-1 after a power play goal by Dorchester's Tyler Kerr at 15:43 in the first period. Lucan tied things up at 6-6 on a goal by Mitch Smith at 19:45 in the third period.

The Irish got the win thanks to a great game by Smith, who had two goals and two assists. Smith scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 13:32 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Dorchester. A high sticking penalty on Kerr had put Lucan on the power play. Keiron Cobban picked up the assist. Smith's next tally on the power play made the score with 15 seconds left in the third period. Nik Petrie assisted on the tally.

Lucan also got points from Andrew Purdom, who also racked up two goals and one assist. Lucan also got a goal from Dylan Murray as well. Other players who recorded assists for Lucan were Ryan Martin, Zach Beaumont, and Dylan Brooks, who contributed one a piece.

The Dolphins were led by Shayne Rhyno, who registered one goal and two assists. Rhyno scored on the power play 7:00 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Dorchester. Dorchester earned a power play opportunity when Murray was put in the box for delay of game. Cale Duberry provided the assist. Dorchester additionally got points from Duberry, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Ben Lawton, who also had one goal and one assist. Jamie Brzozowski also scored for Dorchester. In addition, Dorchester received assists from Jesiah Sweetland, Patrick Freel, and Brendon O Shaughnessy, who each chipped in one and Tyler Blue and Matt Cormier, who contributed two a piece.

The Irish's Andrew Gantner stopped 18 shots out of the 24 that he faced. Lucan incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Patrick Maziarz recorded 19 saves for the Dolphins. Dorchester totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 2-for-8 on the power play.
