Aylmer stifles Thamesford's comeback, gains 5-3 victoryThamesford District Rec Sun, Sep 22, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Aylmer Spitfires came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Thamesford Trojans, but did just enough to escape with a 5-3 victory. Aylmer led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Spitfires' Will Goodhue's scored at 9:03 in the second period to put Aylmer up 3-0. Goodhue was all over the ice for the Spitfires, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Aylmer forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 18 minors and one major for 71 minutes in penalty time. The Spitfires surpassed its season average of 35.0 penalty minutes per game. Aylmer kept Thamesford's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jake Fonti made 30 saves on 35 shots. Aylmer also got points from Cody Underhill, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Aylmer also got a goal from Todd Laurindo as well. In addition, Aylmer received assists from Brad Payne, who had two and Trevor Stewart, Trevor Richardson, and Matthew Reese, who each chipped in one. The the Trojans penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 51 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 29.0 minutes per game Thamesford had been spending in the box. The Spitfires were unable to stop the Trojans from sending pucks towards the net, and Thamesford eventually piled up 49 shots on goal. The Trojans had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on 15 chances. Thamesford was helped by Andrew McLennan, who tallied one goal. McLennan scored on the power play 19:39 into the second period to make the score 3-3. A roughing penalty on Aiden Estabrooks had put the Trojans on the power play. Jeremy Denomme also scored for Thamesford. Other players who recorded assists for Thamesford were James Toye, Adam Levine, Jake McColl, and Liam Billings, who contributed one a piece. Dan Black made 46 saves for Aylmer on 49 shots. The Spitfires registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Aylmer ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Clint Walker was ejected from the game. For Thamesford, Dylan Wilson-Foote was ejected from the game.
