Tamborro lifts Port Stanley over Aylmer, 6-3

The Port Stanley Sailors relied on the scoring touch of Connor Tamborro, who netted two goals, to beat the Aylmer Spitfires, 6-3.

Tamborro scored on the power play at 14:26 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Port Stanley and again while on the power play 15:17 into the first to make the score 4-2 Port Stanley.

Port Stanley's penalty kill excelled, as the Sailors gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

Port Stanley stifled Aylmer's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Sailors' offense rang up 33 shots on the Spitfires' net.

Port Stanley also got points from Tanner Turley, who also had two goals and one assist to lead the team in points and Andrew Fenn, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Port Stanley also got a goal from Luke McGuire as well. Other players who recorded assists for Port Stanley were Anders Adzija, who had two and Dalton Good, Zachary Zinga, Brad Daly, Taylor Schram, and Findley Brandon, who each chipped in one.

Aylmer kept Port Stanley's goalie busy throughout the game, and Ricky Corkum made 33 saves on 36 shots.

The Spitfires were helped by Brad Payne, who racked up two goals and one assist. Payne scored the first of his two goals at 8:46 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Cody Underhill picked up the assist. Payne's next tally made the score 2-1 Aylmer with 9:36 left in the first period. Underhill assisted on the tally. Aylmer additionally got points from Underhill, who also tallied one goal and two assists. More assists for Aylmer came via Luke Bettencourt, who had one and Matthew Reese, who had two.

The Sailors incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Dan Black recorded 27 saves for Aylmer. The Spitfires incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors.
