Stoody nets hat trick, leads Wellesley to 9-2 win over DelhiDelhi Community Centre Fri, Jan 17, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
A hat trick by Alex Stoody was the highlight in Applejacks' 9-2 win against the Delhi Travellers. Stoody's first goal came 18:23 into the second period. He then added goals at 1:04 into the third and at 14:42 into the third.The Wellesley Applejacks made Delhi's goaltenders to work between the pipes, firing 37 shots and forcing 28 saves. Nick Heath made 24 stops and Jordan Ironside made four. Wellesley stifled the Travellers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Applejacks' goal total was higher than their season average. Wellesley averages 5.1 goals per game. Wellesley also got points from Reid Denstedt, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Mckenzie Carter, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Devon Wagner also scored for Wellesley. In addition, Wellesley received assists from Jake Ariss, Mark Detzler, Troy Williams, Felix Lantaigne, Cal Jefferies, and Luke Rose, who each chipped in one and Cody Tapsell, Sean McEwan, Brett MacDonald, and Justin Lebold, who contributed two a piece. Delhi was helped by Gavin Crandall, who racked up one goal. Crandall scored 6:24 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Delhi. Andrew Huddle assisted on the tally. Delhi also got a goal from Mak McLean as well. The Applejacks' Josh Heer stopped 28 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Wellesley totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and had no power play opportunities. The Applejacks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Stoody was ejected from the game. The Travellers totaled seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major and went 0-for-3 on the power play. For Delhi, Josh Bradshaw was ejected from the game.
