Norwich's comeback falls short, Paris wins 7-5Norwich Community Center Fri, Jan 03, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Norwich Merchants almost clawed their way back from a four-goal deficit, but the Paris Mounties managed to pull out a 7-5 win in the end. Paris led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Mounties' Merrit Crumback's scored on the power play at 1:29 in the second period to put Paris up 4-0. Ian Fowler was all over the ice for the Mounties, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Fowler scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:37 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Paris. Paris had gained a power play chance when Taylor Gosset was whistled for cross checking. Brady Wheelans assisted on the tally. Fowler's next tally on the power play made the score 7-5 Paris with 45 seconds left in the third period. Mitchell Harvey provided the assist. Norwich was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as the Mounties were able to score four times while on the power play. Paris' goal total was higher than its season average. The Mounties have scored at the pace of 4.4 goals per game during the current campaign. Penalties took their toll on Paris, as its penalty kill unit let in four power play goals. The Mounties' defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Paris averages 2.4 goals allowed per game. Paris also got points from Zack Skubnik, who also registered one goal and one assist and Wheelans, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Richard Brooks also scored for Paris. In addition, Paris received assists from Clayton Chalmers and Brodie Smith, who contributed two a piece. The Merchants' offense rang up 32 shots on the Mounties' net. Norwich was helped by Drake Morrell, who finished with one goal and two assists. Morrell scored on the power play 9:10 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Paris. The Merchants had taken the advantage when Paris' Zack Hedley got sent off for interference. Kurtis Lavis picked up the assist. Norwich additionally got points from Lavis, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Mitchell Berzins, who also registered one goal and two assists. Norwich also had goals scored by Brandon Zimmermann and Zack Morrison, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Norwich were Todd Kemp, who had three and Braeden Shand and Todd Poirier, who each chipped in one. Zach Schompe recorded 27 saves for the Mounties. Paris incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Zac Easveld made 23 saves for Norwich on 30 shots. The Merchants incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
