New Hamburg uses big games from Kienapple and Mohr to down Burford, 7-4

Behind two goals and two assists from Sean Kienapple and two goals and one assist from Kyle Mohr, the New Hamburg Firebirds downed the Burford Bulldogs 7-4.

Kienapple scored the first of his two goals at 6:21 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Tyler Hoffman provided the assist. Kienapple's next tally made the score 6-3 New Hamburg with 18:39 left in the third period. Mohr assisted on the tally. Mohr scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 17:05 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Burford. New Hamburg had gotten the advantage when Burford's Matt Kliewer was sent off for cross checking. Kyle McDonald provided the assist. Mohr's next tally on the power play made the score 7-4 New Hamburg with 8:40 left in the third period. Hoffman assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 16:07 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Bulldogs were unable to stop the Firebirds from sending pucks towards the net, and New Hamburg eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. The Firebirds found themselves short handed often, totaling 23 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays.

New Hamburg additionally got points from Mohr, who also registered two goals and one assist. New Hamburg also had goals scored by Quinten Haddock, Andrew Boer, and Taylor Wood, who each put in one. More assists for New Hamburg came via David Jennings, who had two and Eric Peicheff, Anthony Osterling, and Sean Hergott, who contributed one a piece.

Burford was led by Kyle Chaney, who racked up two goals and one assist. Chaney scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 1:52 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Burford. The Bulldogs had gained a power play chance when Osterling was whistled for charging. Nolan Ferris picked up the assist. Chaney's next tally on the power play made the score 2-0 Burford with 15:35 left in the first period. Burford had taken the advantage when New Hamburg's Jay Fried got sent off for interference. Adam Harris assisted on the tally. Burford also got points from Kolby Francis, who also had one goal and one assist. Jesse Brooks also scored for Burford. Other players who recorded assists for Burford were New Player, who had one.

Peicheff recorded 25 saves for the Firebirds. New Hamburg registered one goal on four power play opportunities. The Firebirds ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Hergott was ejected from the game. Riley Edwards made 34 saves for the Bulldogs on 41 shots. Burford ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For the Bulldogs, Francis was ejected from the game.
