Burford rips Woodstock, 4-1Burford Community Centre Sat, Dec 21, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Woodstock Navy Vets had trouble finding ways to stop the Burford Bulldogs, which beat Navy Vets, 4-1. Tyler Vandenbussche had two goals and one assist to lead Burford. Vandenbussche scored the first of his two goals at 18:40 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Burford. Adam Harris picked up the assist. Vandenbussche's next tally made the score 3-0 Burford with 6:10 left in the third period. Jesse Brooks assisted on the tally. The Bulldogs' Riley Edwards was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 40 saves and let only one puck past him. Edwards certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 5.9 entering the contest. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:24 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Burford forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 15 minors and one major for 85 minutes in penalty time. The Bulldogs surpassed its season average of 35.0 penalty minutes per game. Burford put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Woodstock to score on any of its 12 power plays. The Bulldogs' offense rang up 40 shots on the Navy Vets' net. Burford also got points from Peter Janeck, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Hayden Cox also scored for Burford. More assists for Burford came via Tommy Smith and Kolby Francis, who each chipped in one. The Woodstock penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and one major for 73 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 18.0 minutes per game the Navy Vets had been spending in the box. Woodstock's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Burford power plays. The Navy Vets forced Burford goalie Edwards to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. Woodstock was led by Braden Hutchison, who scored the team's only goal. Hutchison scored 17:21 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Burford. The Bulldogs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Branden Hill was ejected from the game. Patrick Tanner made 36 saves for the Navy Vets on 40 shots. For Woodstock, Nick Zehr was ejected from the game.
