New Hamburg beats Delhi 5-4 after comeback scareDelhi Community Centre Wed, Dec 18, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The New Hamburg Firebirds survived a determined comeback attempt by the Delhi Travellers on the way to a 5-4 win. New Hamburg made the score 5-3 on a goal by Sean Kienapple at 5:55 in the third period, and Delhi got as close as 5-4 when Taylor Hockley scored 19:37 into the third period. Anthony Osterling had two goals to lead the Firebirds to victory. Osterling's tallies came at 50 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 New Hamburg and 10:22 into the first to make the score 2-2. New Hamburg stifled the Travellers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Firebirds' offense rang up 40 shots on Delhi's net. New Hamburg additionally got points from Kienapple, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Kyle Mohr, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Taylor Wood also scored for New Hamburg. In addition, New Hamburg received assists from Quinten Haddock, who had two. The Travellers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow New Hamburg to score on any of its three power plays. Delhi kept the Firebirds' goalie busy throughout the game, and Ryan Purcell made 29 saves on 33 shots. Delhi also got a goal from Jeremy Jacobs as well. More assists for Delhi came via Brad Ward, who had two and Mike DeCoene and Justin Plant, who each chipped in one. New Hamburg incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Nick Heath recorded 35 saves for the Travellers. Delhi incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
