Norwich blows out Woodstock, 5-1

The Norwich Merchants were firing on all cylinders against the Woodstock Navy Vets, and when the final buzzer sounded Merchants emerged with a 5-1 win.

Norwich was led by goalie Zac Easveld, who finished with 30 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Easveld will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.39.

Woodstock was unable to stop the Merchants from sending pucks towards the net, and Norwich eventually piled up 36 shots on goal. The Merchants were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 28 penalty minutes.

Norwich was helped by Derek Slaght, who racked up one goal and two assists. Slaght scored 14:30 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Norwich. Mitchell Berzins picked up the assist. Norwich additionally got points from Berzins, who also finished with one goal and three assists to lead the team in points and Drake Morrell, who also tallied two goals and one assist. Brandon Morrow also scored for Norwich. In addition, Norwich received assists from Todd Kemp, who had two and Troy Lamoure and Taylor Gosset, who each chipped in one.

The Navy Vets' offense rang up 31 shots on the Merchants' net. Woodstock was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to one goal off of nine man advantages.

Norwich registered two goals on four power play opportunities. The Navy Vets' Patrick Tanner stopped 31 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Woodstock incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
