Tavistock beats Woodstock 3-1 after comeback scare

The Woodstock Navy Vets tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Tavistock Braves held on for a 3-1 victory.

Tavistock took a 3-0 lead during the second period, only to have Woodstock storm back on a Dan Haig goal 5:45 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The Braves were paced by Neals Vanweley, who had one goal. Vanweley scored 16:49 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Tavistock. Mack Gingerich assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 6:19 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Tavistock stifled the Navy Vets' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Tavistock additionally got points from Jeremy Munro, who also registered one goal and one assist. Tavistock also got a goal from Sean Leslie as well. More assists for Tavistock came via Angus Rowland AP, who had two.

Woodstock's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Tavistock power plays.

In addition, Woodstock received assists from Braden Hutchison, who had one.

Trevor Bloch recorded 18 saves for the Braves. Tavistock ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. The Braves ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Munro was ejected from the game. Patrick Tanner made 18 saves for the Navy Vets on 21 shots. Woodstock totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 0-for-3 on the power play. For the Navy Vets, Garrett Whetham was ejected from the game.
