Norwich blows out Tavistock, 7-1

The Tavistock Braves had trouble finding ways to stop the Norwich Merchants, which beat Braves, 7-1.

Norwich was led by Ryan Stephenson, who had one goal and one assist. Stephenson scored 6:24 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Norwich. Jordan Gillis assisted on the tally.

The Merchants put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Tavistock to score on any of its four power plays. The Braves were unable to stop Norwich from sending pucks towards the net, and the Merchants eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. Norwich outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Merchants average 4.4 goals per contest. Norwich's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Norwich additionally got points from Drake Morrell, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Norwich also had goals scored by Mitchell Berzins, who had two and Todd Poirier, Jesse Szabo, and Troy Lamoure, who scored one goal each. More assists for Norwich came via Derek Slaght, who had two, Taylor Gosset, who had three, and Zac Easveld, Zach Couwenberg, and Josh Herreman, who contributed one a piece.

Tavistock was led by Jordan Ritsma, who scored the team's only goal. Ritsma scored 8:04 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Norwich. Neals Vanweley picked up the assist.

The Merchants' Easveld stopped 19 shots out of the 20 that he faced. Norwich totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 3-for-6 on the power play. The Merchants ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Nick Burdett was ejected from the game. Trevor Bloch rejected 24 shots on goal for the Braves. Tavistock incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
