Wellesley uses big games from Tapsell and Lebold to down Delhi, 8-3

Behind two goals and two assists from Cody Tapsell and zero goals and four assists from Justin Lebold, the Wellesley Applejacks downed the Delhi Travellers 8-3.

Tapsell scored the first of his two goals at 3:07 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Wellesley. Taylor Doering picked up the assist. Tapsell's next tally made the score 6-3 Wellesley with 6:04 left in the third period. Wellesley had gotten the advantage when Delhi's Connor Magwood was sent off for slashing. Reid Denstedt provided the assist.

The Applejacks kept the Travellers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Nick Heath made 28 saves on 36 shots. Wellesley surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Applejacks average 5.0 goals per game.

Wellesley additionally got points from Blake Hetherington, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Wellesley also got a goal from Troy Williams as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wellesley were Luke Rose, who had one and Jake Ariss and Parker Wood, who contributed two a piece.

Wellesley was unable to stop Delhi from sending pucks towards the net, and the Travellers eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Delhi was led by Taylor Hockley, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Hockley scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 2:14 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Wellesley. A slashing penalty on Hetherington had put the Travellers on the power play. Mick Finn-Dunn picked up the assist. Hockley's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Wellesley with 12:33 left in the third period. Brad Ward provided the assist. Delhi also got points from Finn-Dunn, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Delhi came via Jordan Betzold, who had one.

Brayden Bruce recorded 31 saves for the Applejacks. Wellesley incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Delhi incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
