Morrell leads Norwich over Delhi, 9-5

Behind a great game by Drake Morrell, who had four goals and one assist, the Norwich Merchants defeated the Delhi Travellers, 9-5.

Morrell notched his first tally 18:43 into the first period. He then added goals at 18:56 into the second, at 1:06 into the third, and at 19:47 into the third.

Delhi's five penalties came back to haunt it, as the Travellers let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

Norwich's offense rang up 35 shots on Delhi's net. The Merchants surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Norwich averages 4.4 goals per contest. The Merchants' normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. Norwich is averaging 2.5 goals against for the season.

Norwich also got a goal from Ryan Stephenson as well. In addition, Norwich received assists from Todd Kemp, who had two, Kurtis Lavis, who had three, Mitchell Berzins, who had four, and Derek Slaght, Braeden Shand, Zach Couwenberg, Jordan Gillis, Jesse Szabo, Troy Lamoure, and Josh Herreman, who each chipped in one.

The Travellers bested their season scoring average. Delhi has scored at the pace of 2.7 goals per game during the current campaign.

The Travellers were led by Kyle Eggleston, who racked up two goals and two assists. Eggleston scored the first of his two goals at 4:49 into the third period to make the score 7-4 Norwich. Eggleston's next tally made the score 8-5 Norwich with 9:41 left in the third period. Delhi had taken the advantage when the Merchants' Couwenberg got sent off for holding. Mike DeCoene assisted on the tally. Delhi also got points from Jeremy Jacobs, who also tallied one goal and two assists and DeCoene, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Mick Finn-Dunn also scored for Delhi. More assists for Delhi came via Brad Ward, who had one and Justin Plant, who had two.

Perry Robinson rejected 22 shots on goal for Norwich. The Merchants incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. For Norwich, Brandon Morrow was ejected from the game. Jordan Ironside made 26 saves for the Travellers on 35 shots. Delhi incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
