Burford erases deficit to stun Wellesley, 5-4

The Wellesley Applejacks could not hold down the Burford Bulldogs, and Bulldogs erased a two-goal deficit en route to a 5-4 win.

Burford never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Bulldogs trailed 4-2 after a goal by Wellesley's Sean McEwan at 12:55 in the second period. Burford knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Jesse Brooks at 8:56 in the third period. The Bulldogs netted the game winner at 16:48 in the third period on a goal by Brooks.

Brooks and Peter Janeck provided the spark for Burford, combining for three goals and one assist. Brooks tallied two goals and Janeck also added one goal and one assist.

The Bulldogs' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Wellesley power plays. Burford kept the Applejacks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Josh Heer made 30 saves on 35 shots. The Bulldogs' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Burford finished with 24 penalty minutes.

Burford also got points from Janeck, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Burford included Chris Grand and Branden Hill, who scored one goal each. In addition, Burford received assists from Pat Bates, Tyler Vandenbussche, Cole Henrique, Nolan Ferris, and Kolby Francis, who each chipped in one.

Wellesley put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Bulldogs to score on any of their four power plays. Burford was unable to stop the Applejacks from sending pucks towards the net, and Wellesley eventually piled up 42 shots on goal.

The Applejacks were led by Alex Stoody, who registered two goals. Stoody scored the first of his two goals at 1:36 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellesley. Devon Wagner provided the assist. Stoody's next tally made the score 2-1 Wellesley with 9:05 left in the first period. Brett MacDonald assisted on the tally. Wellesley also got a goal from Cody Tapsell as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wellesley were Troy Williams, Mackenzie Shantz, Mckenzie Carter, Luke Rose, and Chris Beauchene, who contributed one a piece.

Nick Trask made 38 saves for the Bulldogs on 42 shots. Wellesley incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
