Kienapple's hat trick boosts New Hamburg over Wellesley, 5-4

Sean Kienapple lifted the New Hamburg Firebirds to a 5-4 victory with a hat trick against the Wellesley Applejacks.

Kienapple's first goal came 7:41 into the first period. He then added goals at 4:38 into the second and at 12:53 into the second.

Wellesley's power play was ineffective against New Hamburg's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Firebirds forced the Applejacks goalie Josh Heer to work between the pipes, taking 51 shots.

New Hamburg also got points from Kyle Mohr, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. New Hamburg also got a goal from David Jennings as well. More assists for New Hamburg came via Carter Tracey, who had two and Anthony Osterling, Garrett Pollock, and Tyler Hoffman, who each chipped in one.

Wellesley's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven New Hamburg power plays. New Hamburg was unable to stop the Applejacks from sending pucks towards the net, and Wellesley eventually piled up 50 shots on goal.

The Applejacks were helped by Brett MacDonald, who had one goal and two assists. MacDonald scored 2:39 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellesley. Alex Stoody assisted on the tally. Wellesley additionally got points from Stoody, who also registered one goal and one assist and Devon Wagner, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Reid Denstedt also scored for Wellesley.

Eric Peicheff rejected 46 shots on goal for the Firebirds. New Hamburg incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Wellesley's Heer stopped 46 shots out of the 51 that he faced. The Applejacks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
