Sean Kienapple netted a hat trick to lead the New Hamburg Firebirds over the Woodstock Navy Vets, 8-7. Kienapple's first goal came 10:15 into the second period. He then added goals at 1:17 into the third and at 4:43 into the third.New Hamburg forced Woodstock's goalies to work between the pipes, ripping 45 shots and forcing 37 saves. Patrick Tanner made 21 stops and Michael Roefs made 16. The Firebirds outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, New Hamburg averages 5.3 goals per contest. The Firebirds' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. New Hamburg additionally got points from Kyle McDonald, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. New Hamburg also had goals scored by Tyler Randerson, who had two and Anthony Osterling and Garrett Pollock, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for New Hamburg were Taylor Wood, who had two and Kory Nowak, David Jennings, Kyle Mohr, and Tyler Hoffman, who each chipped in one. The Navy Vets made Firebirds' goaltenders to work without much rest, launching 32 shots and forcing 25 saves. Eric Peicheff made three stops and Ryan Purcell made 22. Woodstock bested its season scoring average. The Navy Vets average 2.8 goals per game. Woodstock was led by Mike Gillespie, who tallied two goals and one assist. Gillespie scored the first of his two goals at 11:42 into the second period to make the score 3-2 New Hamburg. Kyle Robertson picked up the assist. Gillespie's next tally made the score 5-5 with 18:01 left in the third period. Robertson assisted on the tally. Woodstock also got points from Jake Schneider, who also grabbed one goal and two assists and Robertson, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Matt Jauernig also scored for Woodstock. More assists for Woodstock came via Brynn Schultz, Nick Zehr, Nathan Innes, Taylor DeClercq, and Tyler Major, who contributed one a piece. New Hamburg incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. The Navy Vets incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
