Tavistock survives Wellesley comeback, wins 5-3

The Wellesley Applejacks tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Tavistock Braves would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-3.

Tavistock made the score 5-2 on a goal by Jake Wiffen at 11:04 in the third period, and Wellesley got as close as 5-3 when Mackenzie Shantz scored 17:05 into the third period.

The Braves' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Wellesley power plays. Tavistock's offense rang up 42 shots on the Applejacks' net.

Tavistock also got a goal from Jeremy Munro as well. More assists for Tavistock came via Matt Loader, who had one and Jordan Ritsma, Dylan Yantzi, and Angus Rowland AP, who each chipped in two.

Wellesley excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Applejacks forced the Braves goalie Jason Miller to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

Wellesley was helped by Luke Rose, who had one goal. Rose scored short handed 2:48 into the second period to make the score 1-1. A charging call on Felix Lantaigne put the Applejacks on the penalty kill. Mark Detzler picked up the assist. Wellesley also got points from Blake Hetherington, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Wellesley were Troy Williams and Mckenzie Carter, who contributed one a piece.

Miller recorded 32 saves for Tavistock. The Braves incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Brayden Bruce made 37 saves for Wellesley on 42 shots. The Applejacks incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
