Easveld stymies Delhi, Norwich wins 4-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Zac Easveld helped the Norwich Merchants defeat the Delhi Travellers, 4-1.

Norwich got the win thanks to a great game by Drake Morrell, who had one goal and two assists. Morrell scored 3:19 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Norwich. Kurtis Lavis provided the assist.

The Merchants pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 44 penalty minutes.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:54 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Norwich put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Delhi to score on any of its eight power plays. The Merchants kept the Travellers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jordan Ironside made 35 saves on 39 shots. The defensemen of Norwich were also effective in Delhi's zone, and came away with two goals.

Norwich additionally got points from Lavis, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Mitchell Berzins also scored for Norwich. More assists for Norwich came via Zach Couwenberg, who had one.

The Travellers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Delhi was led by Mike DeCoene, who scored the team's only goal. DeCoene scored 32 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Norwich. Kyle Eggleston picked up the assist.

Easveld rejected 26 shots on goal for the Merchants. Norwich registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For the Merchants, Couwenberg and Brandon Zimmermann were ejected from the contest. Team's Nick Cole, Connor Magwood, and Mike Crawford were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
