Wellesley beats Burford 5-4 after comeback scare

The Burford Bulldogs tried their best to erase a four-goal deficit, but the Wellesley Applejacks would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-4.

Wellesley made the score 5-1 on a goal by Parker Wood at 19:49 in the second period, and Burford got as close as 5-4 when Brayden kettlewell scored 10:34 into the third period.

In the losing effort, the Bulldogs were sparked by kettlewell, who grabbed two goals. Kettlewell scored the first of his two goals at 11:37 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Peter Janeck picked up the assist. kettlewell's next tally made the score Wellesley with 9:26 left in the third period. Austin Elkin assisted on the tally.

Burford was unable to stop the Applejacks from sending pucks towards the net, and Wellesley eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

The Applejacks were helped by Blake Hetherington, who racked up one goal. Hetherington scored 14:25 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Wellesley. Mckenzie Carter picked up the assist. Wellesley also had goals scored by Felix Lantaigne, who had one and Alex Stoody, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Wellesley were Devon Wagner, who had two and Jake Ariss, Taylor Doering, Cal Jefferies, Brett MacDonald, and Chris Beauchene, who each chipped in one.

The Bulldogs' offense rang up 38 shots on Wellesley's net.

Burford also got a goal from Chris Grand as well. In addition, Burford received assists from Pat Bates, Cole Henrique, and Jesse Brooks, who contributed one a piece.

Josh Heer recorded 34 saves for the Applejacks. Wellesley incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Riley Edwards made 30 saves for Burford on 35 shots. The Bulldogs incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
