Norwich rips Burford, 7-2Norwich Community Center Fri, Oct 04, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Norwich Merchants had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-2 win over the Burford Bulldogs. Norwich was sparked by Drake Morrell, who had one goal and one assist. Morrell scored on the power play 1:43 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Norwich. The Merchants had gotten the advantage when Burford's Tyler Vandenbussche was sent off for hooking. Todd Kemp picked up the assist. In a losing effort, the Bulldogs were led by Scott Pennwarden, who grabbed two goals. Pennwarden scored the first of his two goals at 17:05 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Norwich. Broidy Rondelet assisted on the tally. Pennwarden's next tally made the score 4-2 Norwich with 7:16 left in the second period. Austin Elkin picked up the assist. Norwich outdid its season average for goals scored. The Merchants average 4.6 goals per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals. Norwich also got points from Kemp, who also racked up two goals and two assists to lead the team in points and Mitchell Berzins, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Norwich included Troy Lamoure, who had one and Brandon Zimmermann, who had two. In addition, Norwich received assists from Braeden Shand, who had two and Jesse Szabo and Taylor Gosset, who contributed one a piece. Zac Easveld rejected 20 shots on goal for Norwich. The Merchants incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Jake Manousos recorded 22 saves for Burford. The Bulldogs incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
