New Hamburg downs Delhi, 6-2Wilmot Recreation Complex Fri, Oct 04, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Despite two points from Taylor Hockley, the Delhi Travellers fell to the New Hamburg Firebirds, 6-2. In a losing effort, Delhi was led by Hockley, who racked up two goals. Hockley scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:49 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Delhi. The Travellers earned a power play opportunity when Tyler Randerson was put in the box for hooking. Mak McLean provided the assist. Hockley's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 New Hamburg with 4:13 left in the second period. Delhi had gained a power play chance when Brodie Muckler was whistled for tripping. Brendan Schreider assisted on the tally. New Hamburg kept the Travellers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Nick Heath made 42 saves on 48 shots. The Firebirds' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as New Hamburg finished with 42 penalty minutes. The Firebirds were helped by Tyler Hoffman, who registered one goal. Hoffman scored 13:22 into the second period to make the score 3-1 New Hamburg. David Jennings picked up the assist. New Hamburg also got a goal from Matt Yantzi as well. Other players who recorded assists for New Hamburg were Sean Hergott and Taylor Wood, who contributed one a piece and Colin Martin and Andrew Boer, who each chipped in two. Delhi could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 38 minutes in penalties during the game. Ryan Purcell rejected 22 shots on goal for New Hamburg. The Firebirds registered one goal on five power play opportunities. The Travellers registered two goals on seven power play opportunities.
