Topeka wins tough contest against Springfield, 4-3Nelson Center Fri, Dec 06, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Topeka RoadRunners gutted out a close 4-3 win against the Springfield Jr. Blues. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and James Ring secured the win for Topeka with a goal in the third period. The RoadRunners got the win with help from a great game by Ring, who had two goals and one assist. Ring scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 7:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Topeka. Topeka had gotten the advantage when Springfield's Garrett Elmore was sent off for tripping. Jake Kamrass picked up the assist. Ring's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Topeka with 4:12 left in the third period. The RoadRunners had gained a power play chance when Ji Young Li was whistled for cross checking. Kamrass provided the assist. Topeka excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Topeka also had goals scored by Michal Uhrik and Jasen Fernsler, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Topeka were Clint Garris, Peter Halash, Andrew Roye, Jerad Tafoya, and Ryan Polin, who each chipped in one. The Jr. Blues put 35 shots on net during the contest, more than the 25.2 they average per game. Springfield was helped by Alex Baskakov, who grabbed one goal. Baskakov scored 4:34 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Springfield. Max Kalter picked up the assist. Others who scored for Springfield included Cameron Brown and Davis DeKorte, who each put in one. In addition, Springfield received assists from Jack Sloan, Logan Wendling, Mike Severson, Trevor Stone, and Joshua Lammon, who contributed one a piece. PJ Bridges made 32 saves for the RoadRunners on 35 shots. Topeka incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Jr. Blues' Stefanos Lekkas stopped 22 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Springfield incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
