Fairbanks blows out Kenai River, 6-3

The Fairbanks Ice Dogs were firing on all cylinders against the Kenai River Brown Bears, and when the final buzzer sounded Ice Dogs emerged with a 6-3 win.

Viktor Liljegren was all over the ice for Fairbanks, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Liljegren scored the first of his two goals at 14:21 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Fairbanks. Tayler Munson provided the assist. Liljegren's next tally made the score 5-2 Fairbanks with 12:21 left in the third period. The Ice Dogs earned a power play opportunity when Eric Purcell was put in the box for slashing. Chandler Madry assisted on the tally.

Fairbanks outdid its season average for goals scored. The Ice Dogs have scored at the pace of 3.2 goals per game during the current campaign. Fairbanks' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in two goals to Kenai River's power play unit. With 55 shots on target during the contest, the Ice Dogs exceeded the 32.9 shots they average per game this year.

Fairbanks additionally got points from Munson, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Fairbanks included Hans Gorowsky, Ethan Somoza, and Jacob Hetz, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Fairbanks were Nick Hinz, who had two and Doug Rose, Johnny Mueller, Kyle Lee, Ben Campbell, and David Kaplan, who contributed one a piece.

The Brown Bears put 27 shots on net during the contest, more than the 23.7 they average per game.

Kenai River also got points from Matt Rudin, who also had one goal and one assist. Evan Butcher also scored for Kenai River. In addition, Kenai River received assists from Alec Butcher, who had two and Jake Bushey, Albin Karlsson, and Nathan Colwell, who each chipped in one.

Fairbanks' Patrick Munson stopped 24 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Ice Dogs totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Kris Oldham recorded 49 saves for Kenai River. The Brown Bears ended with 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors.
