Bismarck uses shootout to best Austin, 4-3 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Bismarck Bobcats defeated the Austin Bruins in a shootout 4-3 (2-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams. Bismarck also got a shootout goal from Huba Sekesi.

The Bobcats saw a three-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Bismarck made the score 3-0 on a goal by Matt Anders at 10:20 in the second period. Austin evened things up at 3-3 on a goal by Jay Dickman at 6:42 in the third period.

Anders was all over the ice for the Bobcats, as he racked up two goals in the win.

The Bismarck penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 17.0 minutes per game the Bobcats had been spending in the box. Bismarck's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Austin power plays. The Bobcats' offense was clicking better than usual and put 35 shots on goal during the game, better than the 30.6 shots per game they average.

Stanislav Dzakhov also scored for Bismarck. In addition, Bismarck received assists from Dan Kovar, who had two and Ryan Callahan, Tyler Dunagan, Cullen Willox, and Brendan Harris, who contributed one a piece.

The Bruins excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Austin put 35 shots on net during the contest, more than the 26.0 it averages per game.

Austin additionally got points from Josh Bretner, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Austin came via Dominik Florian, who had one.

Aaron Nelson made 32 saves for Bismarck on 35 shots. The Bruins' Nicholas Lehr stopped 31 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Austin ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
