Nelson leads Bismarck to shutout victory over Austin

Aaron Nelson was superb between the pipes for the Bismarck Bobcats, as he did not allow a goal in a 4-0 victory over the Austin Bruins.

Bismarck's penalty kill excelled, as the Bobcats gave up zero goals despite allowing nine power plays.

Bismarck was led by Seth Blair, who had one goal and one assist. Blair scored 4:57 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Bismarck. Evan Giesler assisted on the tally.

The Bobcats forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. Bismarck surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. The Bobcats stifled Austin's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Bismarck was steadier on the defensive front than it has been for much of this season. The Bobcats allow 2.3 goals per game. The 37 shots that Bismarck put on net surpassed the Bobcats' average of 29.3 shots per game this season.

Bismarck also got points from Giesler, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Bismarck also got a goal from Tommy Malkmus as well. Other players who recorded assists for Bismarck were Tony German, Joonas Huovinen, Tanner Salsberry, Dan Kovar, and Cullen Willox, who each chipped in one.

The the Bruins penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and two majors for 36 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game Austin had been spending in the box. The Bruins put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Bismarck to score on any of its five power plays. Austin was held below its usual level of production. The Bruins average 3.2 goals per game. Austin relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Brian Bachnak, Niko Hildenbrand and Jay Dickman took 17 of the team's 33 shots.

The Bobcats' Nelson stopped 33 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Nicholas Lehr made 33 saves for the Bruins on 36 shots. For Austin, Antisin Antisin was ejected from the game.
