Brookings falls to Aberdeen in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Aberdeen Wings' Jake Horton scored 4:20 into overtime to beat the Brookings Blizzard, 5-4 (OT).

Aberdeen's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Brookings power plays. The Wings put 27 shots on net during the contest, more than the 22.9 they average per game. Aberdeen found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Wings average 2.9 goals per contest.

Aberdeen was led by Kyle Haak, who tallied two goals. Haak scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 2:24 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Wings had gotten the advantage when Brookings' Conrad Sampair was sent off for tripping. Erik Baskin assisted on the tally. Haak's next tally on the power play made the score 4-4 with 13 seconds left in the third period. Tanner Okeson picked up the assist. Aberdeen additionally got points from Zach Doerring, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Austin Swingle also scored for Aberdeen. More assists for Aberdeen came via Ryan Cook, Drew Doyon, Brycon Johnson, and Lennart Palausch, who contributed one a piece.

Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. The 33 shots that the Blizzard put on net surpassed Brookings' average of 29.6 shots per game this season.

The Blizzard were led by Brandon Parker, who racked up two goals. Parker scored the first of his two goals at 53 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Brookings. Nick DeCenzo assisted on the tally. Parker's next tally made the score 3-2 Brookings with 18:03 left in the second period. Jeff Flicker picked up the assist. Brookings also got points from Jared Goudreau, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Brookings also got a goal from Branislav Rapac as well. Other players who recorded assists for Brookings were Conor Andrle, Evan Hesse, Beau Michaud, and Christian Fosse, who each chipped in one.

Henry Dill recorded 29 saves for Aberdeen. The Wings incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Brookings' Drew Weigman stopped 22 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Blizzard incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
