Corpus Christi uses early goal to top Lone Star, 3-1

The Corpus Christi IceRays took the lead against the Lone Star Brahmas in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 3-1 victory.

Corpus Christi took over the lead for good with a goal by Maurin Bouvet at 9:15 in the first period. The IceRays had gained a power play chance when Anthony Mousseau was whistled for checking from behind. Brad LeLievre picked up the assist.

Corpus Christi's penalty kill excelled, as the IceRays gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Corpus Christi was sparked by Jake Durflinger, who had one goal. Durflinger scored 1:52 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Corpus Christi. Bouvet assisted on the tally.

The IceRays racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and three majors for 45 minutes in penalty time. Corpus Christi had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. The IceRays stifled Lone Star's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Corpus Christi additionally got points from Bouvet, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Grant Hutton also scored for Corpus Christi. More assists for Corpus Christi came via Martin Hojbjerg, who had two and Caleb OBrien and Kyle Froese, who each chipped in one.

The Brahmas were often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and three majors for 59 minutes in penalty time. Lone Star surpassed its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game. The Brahmas put 19 shots on net during the contest, more than the 15.7 they average per game.

Lone Star was led by Todd Koritzinsky, who scored the team's only goal. Koritzinsky scored 9:01 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Corpus Christi. Conner Enciso picked up the assist.

Corpus Christi's Forbes Ploszaj stopped 18 shots out of the 19 that he faced. The IceRays registered two goals on nine power play opportunities. TJ Black rejected 25 shots on goal for the Brahmas. For Lone Star, Alex Dagnal was ejected from the game.
