Fairbanks vanquishes MN Wilderness in shootout, 2-1 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Fairbanks Ice Dogs defeated the MN Wilderness Wilderness in a shootout 2-1 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed seven turns to complete the shootout. Fairbanks' other shootout goal was scored by Tayler Munson.

The Ice Dogs racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Fairbanks surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. The Ice Dogs excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Fairbanks' offense was clicking better than usual and put 39 shots on goal during the game, better than the 31.6 shots per game it averages.

The Ice Dogs were led by Jacob Hetz, who racked up one goal. Hetz scored 8:57 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fairbanks. Hans Gorowsky provided the assist. In addition, Fairbanks received assists from Johnny Mueller, who had one.

MN Wilderness put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Fairbanks to score on any of its three power plays.

The Wilderness were led by John May, who scored the team's only goal. May scored 16:42 into the second period to make the score 1-1.

The Ice Dogs' Kevin Aldridge stopped 24 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Kasimir Kaskisuo made 37 saves for MN Wilderness on 38 shots. The Wilderness ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
