GAME RECAP

Minot uses shootout to best Brookings, 2-1 (1-0 SO)

Maysa Arena    Sat, Nov 09, 2013

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Minot Minotauros defeated the Brookings Blizzard in a shootout 2-1 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured nine attempts between both teams.

Brookings was stymied by Minot netminder Merrick Madsen, who stopped 33 shots during the victory. Madsen managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.29 prior to the game.

By firing 27 shots on goal, the Minotauros exceeded the 19.1 shots they average per game this year. Minot's defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 13 shots between them.

The Minotauros were led by Cameron Rowat, who racked up one goal. Rowat scored 11:29 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Minot. Max Pernhem picked up the assist. More assists for Minot came via Jacob Howie, who had one.

The Blizzard put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Minot to score on any of its four power plays. Brookings relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Evan Hesse, Russ Jordan and Brandon Parker took 19 of the team's 34 shots.

In addition, Brookings received assists from Nick DeCenzo and Eric Brenk, who each chipped in one.

The Minotauros ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. Austin Priebe recorded 25 saves for the Blizzard. Brookings totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play.
