Soo outlasts Johnstown, 4-3

The Soo Eagles gutted out a close 4-3 win against the Johnstown Tomahawks.

Soo gained the winning advantage on a goal by Mike Sabatini 14:45 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

The Eagles were paced by Sabatini, who registered one goal.

Soo was led by Sabatini, who finished with one goal.

Soo additionally got points from Jacob McDowell, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Soo also got a goal from Ryan Urso as well. Other players who recorded assists for Soo were AJ Jarosz, Bruno Birzitis, and Jeremy Norway, who contributed one a piece.

By firing 29 shots on goal, Johnstown exceeded the 22.8 shots it averages per game this year.

The Tomahawks were led by Joe Drabin, who tallied two goals. Drabin scored the first of his two goals at 4:05 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Soo. Brandon Reinholz provided the assist. Drabin's next tally made the score 3-3 with 9:55 left in the second period. Mitch Hall picked up the assist. Trevor Recktenwald also scored for Johnstown. More assists for Johnstown came via Brady Bender, Tyler Basham, and Shane Bednard, who each chipped in one.

Colin Brennan made 26 saves for the Eagles on 29 shots. Soo totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. The Eagles ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Urso was ejected from the game. Alex Okicki rejected 19 shots on goal for Johnstown. The Tomahawks totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
