Port Huron uses early goal to top Wenatchee, 2-1

McMorran Arena - Main    Sat, Oct 12, 2013

Mitch Maloney gave the Port Huron Fighting Falcons the lead in the first period, and the Wenatchee Wild was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 2-1.

Port Huron took over the lead for good with a goal by Maloney at 8:27 in the first period. Bryan Yim picked up the assist.

Maloney had a great game for the Fighting Falcons, netting two goals.

Port Huron stifled Wenatchee's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

In addition, Port Huron received assists from Conner Enciso, Nick Horne, and Joey Lindberg, who contributed one a piece.

The Wild put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Fighting Falcons to score on any of their six power plays. Wenatchee failed to reach its usual level of shot production, putting 20 pucks on goal after averaging 27.8 shots per game this season.

The Wild were led by Sam Becker, who scored the team's only goal. Becker scored 8:56 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Port Huron. Parker Tuomie assisted on the tally.

Alex Blankenburg made 19 saves for Port Huron on 20 shots. The Fighting Falcons incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Chase Perry recorded 20 saves for Wenatchee. The Wild incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
