Bismarck uses shootout to best Brookings, 4-3 (2-0 SO)

Larson Ice Center Red    Fri, Oct 11, 2013

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Bismarck Bobcats defeated the Brookings Blizzard in a shootout 4-3 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout. In addition to the clincher, Bismarck got a shootout goal from Joonas Huovinen.

The Bobcats were paced by Filip Starzynski, who racked up one goal. Starzynski scored on the power play 5:42 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Bismarck. Bismarck had gained a power play chance when Trey Olson was whistled for high sticking. Jared Dedenbach assisted on the tally.

The Bobcats were sparked by Starzynski, who had one goal.

Bismarck stifled Brookings' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Blizzard were unable to stop the Bobcats from sending pucks towards the net, and Bismarck eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

Bismarck also got a goal from Huba Sekesi as well. In addition, Bismarck received assists from Nate Repensky, Matt Anders, Tyler Dunagan, and Brendan Harris, who each chipped in one.

Brookings relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Conor Andrle, Russ Jordan and Jared Goudreau took 22 of the team's 40 shots.

Brookings also got points from Goudreau, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Brookings were Joe Nathe, who had two and Jeff Flicker and Nick DeCenzo, who contributed one a piece.
