Wichita Falls rides Munroe to victory over Rio Grande Valley, 3-1

State Farm Arena    Sun, Sep 29, 2013

The Wichita Falls Wildcats relied on the sparkling performance of Chase Munroe in net to grab a 3-1 win against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees.

Rio Grande Valley's power play was ineffective against Wichita Falls' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Wildcats were led by Jordan Jancze, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Jancze scored short handed 14:55 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Wichita Falls. Wichita Falls played down a man on Sam Pzazza's cross checking. Tyler Ledford picked up the assist.

The Wildcats were often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and two majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. Wichita Falls had been averaging 25.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Wildcats stifled the Killer Bees' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Wichita Falls was below its usual level of shot production, taking 20 shots compared to the 29.3 the Wildcats average.

Max Reisinger also scored for Wichita Falls. More assists for Wichita Falls came via Andrew Kerr, Colin Staub, Kyle Bauman, and Stan Sojka, who each chipped in one.

Rio Grande Valley put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wichita Falls to score on any of its three power plays. The Killer Bees put 34 shots on net during the contest, more than the 25.0 they average per game.

Rio Grande Valley was led by Evan Schmidbauer, who scored the team's only goal. Schmidbauer scored 10:38 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Wichita Falls. Sven Jung assisted on the tally.

Munroe recorded 33 saves for the Wildcats. The Killer Bees' Olli Kalkaja stopped 17 shots out of the 20 that he faced. Rio Grande Valley ended with 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors.
