Springfield vanquishes MN Wilderness in shootout, 4-3 (2-1 SO)Schwan SR-1 Sat, Sep 21, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Springfield Jr. Blues defeated the MN Wilderness Wilderness in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO). The shootout featured 20 attempts between both teams. MN Wilderness got a shootout goal from Eric Cruickshank. In addition to the clincher, Springfield got a shootout goal from Trevor Stone.The Jr. Blues came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Springfield trailed 3-2 after a goal by the Wilderness' John May at 13:05 in the third period. The Jr. Blues knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Mike Severson at 15:31 in the third period. Springfield stifled MN Wilderness' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Jr. Blues were led by Kevin Shand, who finished with one goal and one assist. Shand scored 8:07 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Jack Sloan assisted on the tally. Kyle Shreve also scored for Springfield. Other players who recorded assists for Springfield were Stone, who had two and Thomas Kolaz and Mike Gambino, who contributed one a piece. The Wilderness' normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. MN Wilderness is averaging 1.8 goal against for the season. The Wilderness' offense was clicking better than usual and put 39 shots on goal during the game, better than the 31.3 shots per game they average. MN Wilderness was helped by Colton Kramer, who tallied one goal. Kramer scored 13:11 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Tyler Tatro provided the assist. MN Wilderness also got a goal from Jakob Romo as well. In addition, MN Wilderness received assists from Darian Romanko, who had one and Ryan McNeely, who had two. Sandro Aeschlimann made 36 saves for Springfield on 39 shots. The Jr. Blues incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Kasimir Kaskisuo rejected 22 shots on goal for the Wilderness. MN Wilderness incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
