MN Wilderness hangs on, beats Corpus Christi 2-0

Dominik Tiffels gave the MN Wilderness Wilderness the lead in the first period, and the Corpus Christi IceRays was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 2-0.

Tiffels provided MN Wilderness with the game-winning tally when he scored 9:22 into the the first period. The Wilderness had gained a power play chance when Joe Costello was whistled for slashing. Darian Romanko provided the assist.

MN Wilderness was paced by Tiffels, who grabbed one goal.

The Wilderness racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 12.0 minutes per game MN Wilderness had been spending in the box. The Wilderness put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Corpus Christi to score on any of its five power plays. MN Wilderness failed to reach its usual level of shot production, putting 25 pucks on goal after averaging 32.0 shots per game this season.

Brett Heikkila also scored for MN Wilderness. More assists for MN Wilderness came via Billy Exell and Richard Buri, who contributed one a piece.

The IceRays were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. Corpus Christi surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game.

The IceRays were led by Lucas Bennett, who took three shots.

The Wilderness' Kasimir Kaskisuo stopped 24 shots out of the 24 that he faced. MN Wilderness registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Ben Myers made 23 saves for Corpus Christi on 25 shots.
