Port Huron squeaks by Lone Star, 4-2

The Port Huron Fighting Falcons gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Lone Star Brahmas.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Bryan Yim secured the win for Port Huron with a goal in the third period.

The Fighting Falcons were led by Yim, who registered one goal. Yim scored on the power play 10:03 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Port Huron. Port Huron earned a power play opportunity when Todd Koritzinsky was put in the box for too many men. Jonathan Kopacka assisted on the tally.

The Fighting Falcons put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Lone Star to score on any of its five power plays. The defense for Port Huron played an important role offensively, racking up 16 shots on goal. The 34 shots that the Fighting Falcons put on net surpassed Port Huron's average of 26.5 shots per game this season.

Port Huron also got points from Kopacka, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Port Huron also got a goal from Jon Hall as well. In addition, Port Huron received assists from Zach Badalamenti, who had two and Bobby Brown, Mitch Maloney, and Reed Scahill, who contributed one a piece.

The Brahmas' offense was clicking better than usual and put 18 shots on goal during the game, better than the 14.5 shots per game they average. Lone Star could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Brahmas were helped by Paul Fregeau, who racked up one goal. Fregeau scored 14:15 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Lone Star. Anthony Mousseau provided the assist. Lone Star additionally got points from Mousseau, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Lone Star came via AJ Duggan and Johan Steen, who each chipped in one.

Max Milosek made 16 saves for the Fighting Falcons on 18 shots. Port Huron incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Lone Star's Sean Keating stopped 30 shots out of the 33 that he faced.
