Pursuit of Excellence 18U beats Atlanta Fire 18U 4-2 after comeback scare

Atlanta Fire 18U tried its best to erase a three-goal deficit, but Pursuit of Excellence 18U would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-2.

A goal by Dylan Williamson put Pursuit of Excellence 18U up 4-1 in the second period, but Atlanta Fire 18U pulled to within two on Ivan Brvenik's tally 11:18 into the third period.

Pursuit of Excellence 18U pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 40 penalty minutes.

Pursuit of Excellence 18U's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on 13 Atlanta Fire 18U power plays.

Pursuit of Excellence 18U was led by Merek Zimmerman, who racked up one goal and one assist. Zimmerman scored 8:20 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Pursuit of Excellence 18U. Zack Andrusiak assisted on the tally. Parker Smyth also scored for Pursuit of Excellence 18U. In addition, Pursuit of Excellence 18U received assists from Hunter Zandee, who had two and Noah Turanski and Brandon Duhaime, who contributed one a piece.

Atlanta Fire 18U stifled Pursuit of Excellence 18U's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Atlanta Fire 18U's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Atlanta Fire 18U finished with 38 penalty minutes.

Other players who recorded assists for Atlanta Fire 18U were Alex Sauer, who had two and Seth Kamrass and Peter Cicmanec, who each chipped in one.

Joseph McLeod rejected 23 shots on goal for Pursuit of Excellence 18U. Pursuit of Excellence 18U registered zero goals on eight power play opportunities. Atlanta Fire 18U's Eric Norris stopped 24 shots out of the 28 that he faced.
