Esmark Stars 18U survives penalties, beats Phoenix Firebirds 18U, 5-2

Despite having to fight off several power plays, Esmark Stars 18U was able to defeat Phoenix Firebirds 18U, 5-2.

Esmark Stars 18U was sparked by Cole Hepler, who tallied one goal and one assist. Hepler scored 5:38 into the first period to make the score 3-0 Esmark Stars 18U. Brendon Zack provided the assist.

Esmark Stars 18U kept Phoenix Firebirds 18U's goalie busy throughout the game, and Cooper Johnston made 26 saves on 31 shots. The defense for Esmark Stars 18U tightened up when it had players in the penalty box, as it let in one goal on 12 Phoenix Firebirds 18U power plays. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.
