Esmark Stars 18U vanquishes Pursuit of Excellence 18U in shootout, 4-3

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Esmark Stars 18U defeated Pursuit of Excellence 18U in a shootout 4-3.

The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams. Pursuit of Excellence 18U got a shootout goal from Zack Andrusiak. In addition to the clincher, Esmark Stars 18U got a shootout goal from David Polinski.

Esmark Stars 18U overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Esmark Stars 18U was down 3-2 after a power play goal by Pursuit of Excellence 18U's Brandon Duhaime at 5:43 in the second period. Esmark Stars 18U tied things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Carmen Dalesandro at 16:28 in the second period.

Esmark Stars 18U was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to two goals off of 10 man advantages. Esmark Stars 18U could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Esmark Stars 18U also got points from Cole Hepler, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Esmark Stars 18U also got a goal from Adam Alavi as well. Other players who recorded assists for Esmark Stars 18U were Tristan Ramage, Ryan Lottes, Tanner Gilliland, and Troy Double, who each chipped in one.

Team could not crack Esmark Stars 18U's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage. Pursuit of Excellence 18U was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 34 penalty minutes.

Pursuit of Excellence 18U was helped by Jarod Houde, who had one goal. Houde scored on the power play 7:06 into the first period to make the score 1-1. A cross checking penalty on Polinski had put Pursuit of Excellence 18U on the power play. Devon Becker provided the assist. Pursuit of Excellence 18U additionally got points from Tyler Benson, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Pursuit of Excellence 18U came via Parker Smyth, who had one and Andrusiak, who had two.

Esmark Stars 18U's Brian Baker stopped 18 shots out of the 21 that he faced. Joseph McLeod recorded 19 saves for Pursuit of Excellence 18U.
