Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U beats St. Louis Selects 18U 5-4 after comeback scare

Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U survived a determined comeback attempt by St. Louis Selects 18U on the way to a 5-4 win.

Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U made the score 5-3 on a goal by Keenan Haase at 10:15 in the third period, and St. Louis Selects 18U got as close as 5-4 when John Patterson scored 14:02 into the third period.

Haase was all over the ice for Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U, as he tallied two goals in the win.

Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow St. Louis Selects 18U to score on any of its three power plays.

Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U also got points from Elijiah Barriga, who also registered one goal and one assist. Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U also got a goal from Alex Kalau as well. In addition, Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U received assists from Zachary Wolivar, who had two and Robert McClellan and Connor Reed, who contributed one a piece.

St. Louis Selects 18U was led by Trevor Thornton, who finished with two goals. Thornton scored the first of his two goals at 7:52 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U. Collin George provided the assist. Thornton's next tally made the score 4-3 Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U with 7:38 left in the second period. Sam Yauch picked up the assist. Austin Junger also scored for St. Louis Selects 18U. More assists for St. Louis Selects 18U came via Joey Lupo, Alex Kielczewski, and Jacob Champaign, who each chipped in one.

Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U's Luke Pickar stopped 21 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Anaheim Jr. Ducks 18U incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Taylor Rhodes recorded 25 saves for St. Louis Selects 18U. St. Louis Selects 18U incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
