Early goals doom Sugar Land, falls to Topeka, 10-2

The Topeka Capitals opened up a four-goal lead after the first period and did not look back en route to a 10-2 over the Sugar Land Imperials.

Blake Busch had one goal and two assists to lead Topeka. Busch scored 4:42 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Topeka. Hardijs Kupaks provided the assist.

The Capitals made Sugar Land's netminders to work between the pipes, taking 56 shots and forcing 46 saves. Colton Anderson made seven stops and Matt Douglas made 39. Topeka found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Capitals have scored at the pace of 5.0 goals per game during the current campaign.

Topeka additionally got points from Tommy Malkmus, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Kupaks, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Kole Hudson, who also registered one goal and one assist, Jaydn Munnelly, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Georgy Ostapchuk, who also had two goals and one assist. Topeka also got a goal from Connor Nicholas as well. More assists for Topeka came via Drake Deberry, who had two, Alex Sauer, who had three, and Luke Thom, Seth Kamrass, Trenton Faber, Benton Deanovich, and Dante Juris, who each chipped in one.

The Imperials were led by Jonathon Benavides, who tallied one goal. Benavides scored on the power play 13:14 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Topeka. Sugar Land had gotten the advantage when Topeka's Brandon Hawkins was sent off for high sticking. Matthew Winkle picked up the assist. Wayne Hubley also scored for Sugar Land. In addition, Sugar Land received assists from Alex Tilman and Yves Bader, who contributed one a piece.

Jude Hull made 14 saves for the Capitals on 16 shots. Topeka incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors and had no power play opportunities. The Imperials finished the contest with no penalties and went 1-for-3 with the man advantage.
