Peoria uses early goal to top Cincinnati, 4-2

The Peoria Mustangs took the lead against the Cincinnati Swords in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 4-2 victory.

A goal 3:43 into the the first period by Brennan Anderson proved to be the game winner, and powered Peoria to the victory Sam Turner assisted on the tally.

The Mustangs were led by Brendan Murphy, who registered one goal. Murphy scored 1:02 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Peoria. Austin Ziakas provided the assist.

In the losing effort, Cincinnati was sparked by Nikita Korotkov, who racked up two goals. Korotkov scored the first of his two goals at 12:26 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Peoria. Aaron Storch assisted on the tally. Korotkov's next tally made the score 3-2 Peoria with 12:23 left in the second period. Tanner Bennet picked up the assist.

Peoria excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances.

Peoria also had goals scored by Marshall Gevers and Andrew Scofield, who each put in one. More assists for Peoria came via Jordan Wright, Nathan Chasteen, and Thomas Kolaz, who contributed one a piece.

Other players who recorded assists for Cincinnati were Hunter Schneider, who had one.

Marc Hayton recorded 22 saves for the Mustangs. Peoria incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Alec Rounds rejected 24 shots on goal for the Swords. Cincinnati incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
