Balavich lifts Cleveland over Michigan, 5-1

The Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks relied on the scoring touch of Nick Balavich, who netted two goals, to beat the Michigan Mountain Cats, 5-1.

Balavich found the back of the net 9:49 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cleveland and again while 13:02 into the second to make the score 3-1 Cleveland.

Cleveland's Tyler Jansen was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 30 saves and let only one puck past him. Jansen certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.76 entering the contest.

Michigan was unable to stop the Jr. Lumberjacks from sending pucks towards the net, and Cleveland eventually piled up 56 shots on goal.

Cleveland additionally got points from Tyler Dalton, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Cleveland also had goals scored by Tyler Stockwell and Matt Wipper, who each put in one. In addition, Cleveland received assists from Avery Huibregtse, who had one, Stefan Horgas, who had two, and Jared Johnson, who had three.

The Mountain Cats forced the Jr. Lumberjacks goalie Jansen to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Michigan was led by Max Vance, who scored the team's only goal. Vance scored on the power play 6:34 into the second period to make the score 1-1. The Mountain Cats had gained a power play chance when Dalton was whistled for boarding.

Cleveland incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Michigan's Joe Lopez stopped 51 shots out of the 56 that he faced. The Mountain Cats incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
