Wisconsin survives Peoria comeback, wins 4-2

The Wisconsin Whalers, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Peoria Mustangs and clinched a 4-2 victory.

Wisconsin led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Whalers' Zach Johnson's scored on the power play at 19:02 in the second period to put Wisconsin up 3-0.

Ryan Martin had a great game for the Whalers, netting two goals. Martin's tallies came at 1:01 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Wisconsin and 13:21 into the third to make the score 4-2 Wisconsin.

Wisconsin's offense rang up 45 shots on Peoria's net.

Wisconsin also got points from Easton Halbert, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Wisconsin came via Tim Tarvis, who had three and Mitch Riese, Dan Addie, and Jason Hoehn, who each chipped in one.

The Mustangs did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Peoria averages 5.0 goals per game.

The Mustangs were helped by Blake Ortman, who finished with one goal. Ortman scored on the power play 19:52 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Wisconsin. Peoria had gained a power play chance when D.J. Mussey was whistled for slashing. Sam Turner picked up the assist. Nathan Chasteen also scored for Peoria. In addition, Peoria received assists from Andrew Scofield and Joshua Hart, who contributed one a piece.

Connor Fissel rejected 25 shots on goal for the Whalers. Wisconsin incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Marc Hayton recorded 41 saves for the Mustangs. Peoria incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
