Collins' big game bests Metro in 9-5 Michigan win

Zach Collins was all over the ice for the Michigan Mountain Cats, as he tallied four goals and two assists in Michigan's 9-5 win over the Metro Jets.

Collins' first goal came 1:59 into the first period. He then added goals at 10:17 into the first, at 14:04 into the first, and at 16:47 into the second.

The Mountain Cats forced Metro's goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, getting 31 shots and forcing 22 saves. Trevor Kalinowski made 13 stops and Kameron Limburg made nine. Michigan outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Mountain Cats average 2.1 goals per contest.

Michigan additionally got points from Max Vance, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Kade Morrison, who also had one goal and three assists, Shawn Cornock, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Chris Hubbard, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Daniel Bachynsky also scored for Michigan. In addition, Michigan received assists from Abram Prince, who had two and Shawn Mott, Jacob Gleason, Kenny Forton, Jeremy Cugliari, and Austin Buchholz, who each chipped in one.

The Jets forced Michigan goalie Joe Lopez to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots. Metro surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Jets average 2.9 goals per game.

Metro was helped by Kyle Shreve, who registered two goals. Shreve scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 11:16 into the second period to make the score 5-3 Michigan. The Jets had gained a power play chance when Cugliari was whistled for tripping. Josh Hosking provided the assist. Shreve's next tally on the power play made the score 6-4 Michigan with 7:06 left in the third period. Metro earned a power play opportunity when Cornock was put in the box for high sticking. Alex Holm assisted on the tally. Metro also got points from Kyle Downey, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Metro also had goals scored by Cooper McLean and TJ Krajewski, who scored one goal each. More assists for Metro came via Adam Lockner, Cody Jones, and Zach Kopinski, who contributed one a piece.

Joe Lopez made 44 saves for the Mountain Cats on 49 shots. Michigan incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Jets incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
